A
A= Analyze your Learners
The lesson is intended for fourth grade students. It would be good to know if any of the students have learning disabilities or require accommodations so the lesson plans could be modified to suit their needs. It would also be beneficial to know their level of prior knowledge regarding weather, Earth Science, and Geography.
S
S = State your Objectives
  1. After viewing the seasons video, reading the article, "Why does the Earth have seasons?" and viewing the provided Earth diagram, students will be able to collaboratively work in pairs to complete the discussion questions and "Earth's Axis" worksheet with 100% accuracy.
  2. After reading the “A Reason for the Season” article, students will be able to relate that the rotation of Earth and apparent movements of the Sun to the concepts of day and night by completing the worksheet activity with 100% accuracy. With the same information, students will also be able to write a descriptive paragraph about a season with at least one spelling word and two accurate season characteristics.
  3. After reading the briefing section about solstices and equinoxes, fourth grade students will be able to work at computers in pairs to correctly complete the discussion boards questions, as well as complete the cosmic map activity, identifying the position of the Earth and sun during the summer solstice, winter solstice, autumnal equinox, and vernal equinox with 100% accuracy.
  4. After reading the provided Scholastic article about weather and seasons, students will be able to complete use the online weather maker and complete the "Seasons & Weather" activity worksheet at least 85% accurately.
  5. With the research they have learned over the week, using the Inspiration program, students will work in partners to communicate and collaborate to create a chart about the four seasons; the chart will have at least four paragraphs with a minimum of two correct seasonal facts in each, will include pictures, and the students will present their creative projects to an assigned group of peers.
S
S = Select Media and Materials

-Worksheets
-Writing materials
-Maps of northern and southern hemispheres (available at the MapMachine)
-Inspiration program

-headphones
U
U = Utilize Media and Materials
All materials are prepared and in working order; the computers are turned on, the internet is connected, and the wiki is in working order. The writing tools are used to complete the worksheets. Students will use the internet for instruction and also as a research tool to investigate hemispheres, seasons, weather, and aspects of the Earth. They will test their knowledge by correctly answering discussion questions, taking the online cosmic map activity quiz, playing the weather game, completing several worksheets, and creating a 'seasons' Inspiration chart that they will present to their peers.
R
R = Require Learner Participation
Individually, students will participate by completing their worksheets accurately using the information they gained from paying attention to the teacher presentation and reading online articles. Students will each contribute to their groups by collaborating and thinking critically to answer the discussion questions. The fourth grade students will also work on the computer with a partner to earn a perfect score on the online cosmic map quiz and create their own climates using an interactive weather game. They will combine all the knowledge they learned during the week to create a chart using the program 'Inspiration' which they will present to their peers. Internet, wiki, computers, Inspiration, the online cosmic map quiz, and the weather game are all techonology tools that are used in the lesson.
E
E = Evaluate and Revise
This is the first time I am using this lesson plan in class, so I will evaluate and revise it after the week is done and student performance has been graded!
